Why I Chose Marist-Sion College
The Marist and Sion charisms strongly resonate with my personal values and approach to education. The Marist emphasis on presence, family spirit, simplicity and service reflects my belief that positive relationships are at the heart of student success. I strive to create inclusive and supportive learning environments where every student feels known, valued and encouraged to reach their potential.
I am equally drawn to the Sion tradition’s commitment to respect, justice, inclusion and reconciliation. These values align closely with my belief that schools play an important role in developing compassionate, respectful and socially responsible young people. Marist-Sion College’s commitment to holistic education, faith, wellbeing and community makes it a place where I know I can contribute meaningfully while continuing to grow as an educator.
What Inspires Me About Our Students
What inspires me most about the students at Marist-Sion College is their willingness to embrace every opportunity available to them. Their strong participation in sport, co-curricular activities and community life reflects a positive, engaged and supportive culture where students are encouraged to grow both inside and outside the classroom.
One moment that reinforced my decision to join the College was watching a group of Year 12 students leading a simple “finish the lyric” activity with the rest of their tutor group. It was a small interaction, but it captured the warmth, respect and genuine sense of belonging that exists within the school community. Moments like these remind me of the positive culture that makes Marist-Sion College such a special place to teach.
Why Marist-Sion Feels Like Home
Marist-Sion College feels like the right place for me because of its strong sense of community and belonging. There is a genuine commitment to ensuring every member of the community feels welcomed, supported and valued.
From my first days at the College, I have experienced the kindness and generosity of staff who have made me feel part of the Marist-Sion family. Their encouragement has given me the confidence to embrace new opportunities, continue developing as an educator and empower the young people in my care to become the best versions of themselves. It is this culture of support and collaboration that gives me a strong sense of purpose in my role.
Growth and Fulfilment as an Educator
Working at Marist-Sion College has helped me grow both professionally and personally. As an educator, I have benefited from the knowledge, guidance and generosity of experienced colleagues who are passionate about their craft. The opportunity to learn from them each day has strengthened my confidence, broadened my practice and encouraged me to continually strive for improvement.
Personally, I have found a community that genuinely values the wellbeing of its staff. The willingness of colleagues to take time for a conversation, offer support and celebrate one another’s successes has created a strong sense of belonging. Being part of a community that cares so deeply for both its students and staff has been one of the most rewarding aspects of working at Marist-Sion College, and motivates me to continue making a positive contribution to the life of the College.
