Technology

Technology encourages innovation, creativity and problem solving.

The study of Technology aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to ensure that, individually and collaboratively, students:

  • are creative, innovative and enterprising when using traditional, contemporary and emerging technologies, and understand how technologies have developed over time
  • effectively and responsibly select and manipulate appropriate technologies, resources, materials, data, systems, tools and equipment when designing and creating products, services, environments and digital solutions
  • critique and evaluate technologies processes to identify and create solutions to a range of problems or opportunities
  • investigate, design, plan, manage, create, produce and evaluate technology solutions
  • engage confidently with technologies and make informed, ethical and sustainable decisions about technologies for preferred futures including personal health and wellbeing, recreation, everyday life, the world of work and enterprise, and the environment.

Students will develop skills by:

  • posing problems and identifying needs and areas for improvement
  • gathering information about the needs and improvements, and devising the best path to take towards finding a solution
  • developing and using design and technology skills, knowledge and processes to create new and/or improved products and/or systems
  • using tools, equipment, materials/ingredients and systems components safely and creatively to make quality products and/or systems
  • understanding that design, creativity and technology lead to innovation
  • evaluating design and technology processes and the resulting products and systems.

Year 7

Students complete a compulsory study of Technology which develops their knowledge and skills in:

  • Agriculture and Horticulture
  • Wood
  • Plastics

Year 8

Students complete a compulsory study of Technology which develops their knowledge and skills in:

  • Food and Technology
  • Textiles
  • Wood
  • Metal

Year 9

Students may select one or more electives from:

  • Food and Technology
  • Textiles
  • Introduction to Metalwork
  • Making A Model in Wood
  • Backyard Blitz
  • Agriculture

Year 10

Students may select one or more electives from:

  • Food and Technology
  • Textiles
  • Designing and Making in Wood
  • Electronics and Wood
  • Agriculture and Horticulture

Years 11 and 12

Students may select elective VCE studies from:
